Problem Solving for Grade 4

  1. Tranquilino bought 13 bags of chips. Curdapio bought 8 more bags of chips. They brought these to school and 4/7 were snatched from them and eaten by the class bully. How many bags of chips did the bully get? Will he get sick if he eats all of it?
  2. A piece of land is three and three-fourths hectares wide and five and one-fourth hectares long. How many hectares will someone travel, if he goes around the lot twice?
  3. A hexagonal lot with each side measuring 35.4 meters was recently bought by the owner of the adjacent rectangular lot that has a similar width. If the length of the rectangular lot is twice that of one of the sides of the hexagonal lot, what is the total distance around both lots?
  4. The old chapel was thirty-seven meters long by twenty-three meters wide. This year the bishop increased the area of the church by increasing the length but not the width. He increased the area of the church by 253 square meters. What is the length of the expanded church?
  5. In a circus, the mermaid act's water tank is eight feet high, seven feet long and six feet wide. If it is half-filled, what is the volume of the water?
